Frequently
Asked Questions About The Electoral College
- When may I submit an item for consideration by the
Electoral College?
- You may submit an item for
consideration at any time by
mailing it to the Secretary of the Electoral College. If
appropriate,
it will be added to the next meeting agenda. so allow adequate time.
The agenda submission deadline for each meeting is 40 days prior to the
actual meeting date. The only
standard
exception to this is the Annual Report Form, due by January 31st,
e.v., of each year,
unless
it is being submitted with other paperwork.
- What is
the Electoral College's mailing address?
- Mail, including items for
placement on the next agenda, may be sent to Deborah Woody, Secretary,
Electoral College, OTO USA, PO Box 5741, Glendale, CA 91221-5741. Alternately, they may be sent
in electronic format to the EC Secretary by clicking here.
- Does the EC appoint Revolutionaries?
- Yes. Any person of
appropriate degree (IXth) to volunteer for this appointment is
encouraged to
contact the President of the EC directly.
- How do I become a member of the Electoral College?
- Electors are appointed by the Supreme and Holy King. They
must volunteer for office following their Vth degree initiation.
Potential volunteers (of the V° or
K.R.E. degree) interested in more details of the duties and
responsibilities of service on the EC may contact the EC President. He will forward
requests from those who signify their
intention to volunteer for the College to the Supreme and Holy King,
who
will review each petition.
- I have a problem that I'm not sure if the EC addresses.
Should I send it to the Electoral College?
- We look at everything that is sent to us. If it is sent to
us individually, and the item in question may be addressed through
standard EC practices, we will address it. If not, we can assist by
directing you
to the most appropriate office or person.
- Does my local body really need a mentor?
- If the Master is not a Fifth Degree or higher, yes it does.
This is standard policy. However, the College would like the local
bodies to know that the Mentors are liaisons between the local body and
the College, and not micromanagers or minders.
- Why does my Camp have to answer
all of the questions in the Annual Report Form? Some of these relate to
Lodge requirements!
- At this time we have one ARF
for all sizes of bodies. We have tried to make it as comprehensive as
possible to fit all of the different types and levels of local bodies
that there are. We like it this way, actually, because it
tells us more about who you are and what stage you are at as a local
body, than if we didn't ask all of those questions. We are very
inquisitive.
- Why do
Camps-in-Formation have to fill out an Annual Report?
They aren't even
chartered yet!
- Since
the adoption of the Annual Report
Form, it has been a requirement of Camp applications to fill out an
annual report form which was to be submitted with their application.
However, in the last year we decided that there was a lot of
information in the basic ARF that wasn't relevant to an unchartered
body. Currently, the modified ARF that we ask for with a camp
application is the shortest version of that form. As above, the reasons
for an ARF are so that the Electoral College knows, as well as we can,
the body which we are chartering.
- I am submitting a
standard ARF for the Winter meeting. Do I have to submit another
one during the January/February report cycle?
- This is decided on a
case-by-case basis by the ARF Secretary.
If you would like to request an exemption so that your ARF may be used
during the annual report cycle, please email
her. She may request
that
you submit it twice if there are substantive changes to the information
contained in the form, and in any case she may ask you to elaborate on
specific areas of information.
- Who is eligible to attend EC
meetings?
- In-person meetings may be
attended by members in good standing of Ordo Templi Orientis who are of
the Vth* or higher.
- Where is the EC meeting next?
- In-person meetings are held at
local bodies who agree to host us. Upcoming meetings are announced on
the EC News page, accessible from the top bar of this page.
- How does my local body
volunteer to host an EC meeting?
- By contacting the President
of the
Electoral College. Currently we have enough bodies to host us for the
next two years or so, so you will be looking at a date a couple of
years out. Sometimes the location is selected so that the EC can meet
jointly with other USGL officers, and the order in which we visit
bodies doesn't necessarily match the order in which they volunteered to
host us.
- Where do I send my local
body's publication to?
- Electronic submissions may
be emailed to the
Publications
Secretary. This office,
which was formerly held by a member of the EC, is currently undergoing
transition, and a new post office box will be announced shortly. For
the time being, please hold any publications until the new PO box is
announced on Kaaba and Bodymasters.
- How do I know if there
is a Camp in Formation in my area?
- Please see the list of
currently active CIF's which we have started to maintain, located in
the reference section. We are starting to receive a lot of requests for
this service and so you may wish to check back after each EC meeting.
Additionally, since these CIF's will be removed from that list as they
become chartered, you may wish to recheck the USGL website's list of
local bodies to determine if there is a recently chartered body close
to you. Also, it is worth pointing out that since participation in the
CIF program is not required by the EC to obtain a camp charter, there
may be new local bodies that start up without ever showing up on the
CIF list. In that situation, you can contact any Elector and we will
put you in contact with anyone who
may be organizing on their own in that area, if we have knowledge of
them.
- How do I become a Camp
In Formation organizer?
- Please review all of the
pages
devoted to how to create a Camp, the first of which is located here.
- How often does the EC update
its webpage?
- Generally, we devote time to
overhauling anything that we feel needs it in the week or two
following an EC meeting, simply because we're updating the news page
anyway and it's a good time to do so. Therefore, during this time
period there is a higher probability that links won't work or pages
will be missing. As ever, any website problems can be pointed out to the webmistress.
- Is the EC opposed on
principle to chartering multiple bodies in a
given geographic area?
- Some of the Electors are,
and some aren't. Consequently, if you would like to start a Camp in an
area that already has a local body, loosely defined as within an hour's
driving distance from the existing body, you are going to have to
convince a majority of seated Electors that you have a really valid
reason for starting one; that your Camp would add to the Order's
presence in that area in a positive way and expand the total membership
of the area; and that you and your prospective officers, if you have
any, are actively invested in fostering sustained harmonious relations
with the local bodies nearest to you. In short, you face a harder task
than if you were simply trying to open a local body in an undeveloped
area, but it's not an impossible or hopeless task by any means.
- What if I have a question that
isn't answered here?
- Send it to me, and I will
answer it for you and possibly even post it here.
